                              SERVICE PROJECT OPPORTUNITY

CLS Service Project Opportunity – Christ’s love in action! Two members of Christ Lutheran are traveling to Rwanda to visit the Rwandan Orphans Project (ROP). We want to send basic necessities with them for these school-aged boys! The mission of the Rwandan Orphans Project is to provide shelter, food, water, education and health care to the homeless orphans and other vulnerable children of Rwanda. The ROP believes every child has potential, and that education is the best hope of escaping the strong grip of poverty in Rwanda. There are currently about 100 boys, ages 5-18 in the orphanage school. During National Lutheran Schools Week (January 28-Feb 1), we are collecting the following items to send to these boys: Blue and black ink pens, Black cotton socks (for boys, ages 5-18), Cotton underwear (for boys, ages 5-18), Soccer balls (we will send them deflated – we would love to have enough for every class to sign a ball!). Please bring donations to your child’s classroom by February 1. For more information on the ROP, visit www.rwandanorphansproject.org

Happy Friday everyone! It's TAG Day at Christ Lutheran!

George Washington Carver is the topic for her nonfiction book report. This diligent sixth grader learned many facts about a famous "plant doctor", scientist, and inventor! More fun to come with her project!

A miniature white board on the iPad is a fabulous way to work through math exercises. This thoughtful fourth grader takes her time in solving multi-step word problems!

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WELCOME BACK TO CLS!

The beginning of a new year is exciting. The second semester at CLS will bring successes and new challenges. Thank you for your partnership in education and your support of the Reach Out program. May God continue to bless you and your families!

CLS Chapel Offerings  January 9 – February 13

Chapel offerings Jan 9 – Feb 13 will be donated to Heifer International.  Heifer International places animals in communities around the world, providing a reliable source of food and income.  Our goal is to collect enough to buy a water buffalo ($250) and a llama ($150).

A water buffalo will provide families in need with milk that can transform malnourished children. Plus, families with water buffalos can often plant four times more crops when they can sow fields in days that once took weeks to plant by hand.  It all adds up to better nutrition, and more income for struggling families to put toward clothing, medicines and education.

A llama will provide a struggling family with a lifetime of opportunities.  Heifer International provides llamas to families living at high altitudes in the Andes Mountains of South America where no other animals can withstand the harsh conditions.  Their wool is prized around the world for being denser, warmer and softer than sheep wool — making it possible for families to earn a steady living by either selling the wool or making clothes and blankets.

Each student will bring home a cardboard bank to collect coins.  When the bank is full, return it to school.  Banks may be returned any day up to February 13.  You can learn more about Heifer International by visiting their website:

Llama

A llama will provide a struggling family with a lifetime of opportunities.

Heifer International provides llamas and their close cousins, the alpaca, to families living at high altitudes in the Andes Mountains of South America where no other animals can withstand the harsh conditions.

Their wool is prized around the world for being denser, warmer and softer than sheep wool — making it possible for our partner families to earn a steady living by either selling the wool or making clothes and blankets. Help a family with the gift of a llama.

Water Buffalo

Give the gift of a water buffalo from Heifer International.

These gentle giants provide families in need with milk that can transform malnourished children. Plus, families with water buffalos can often plant four times more crops when they can sow fields in days that once took weeks to plant by hand.

It all adds up to better nutrition, and more income for struggling families to put toward clothing, medicines and education.

Thank you for your support

and for living out our 2012-13 school theme –
